Jinbei’s backstory is deeply rooted in the socio-political struggles between humans and fish-men, who are often subjected to harsh discrimination and forced to live in isolation on Fish-Man Island. This history of tension has created a rift that Jinbei and a few others hope to bridge. Early in his life, Jinbei trained in Fish-Man Karate, mastering its powerful techniques. Through years of rigorous training, he gained immense strength, endurance, and the ability to control water as though it were a tangible weapon. His expertise with Fish-Man Karate enables him to control and manipulate water to create devastating attacks, even in places without any apparent water source.
Jinbei’s journey as a warrior and a diplomat began when he joined the Sun Pirates, a crew formed by Fisher Tiger, a legendary fish-man who broke into Mary Geoise to free enslaved fish-men and humans. This act of defiance against the World Nobles made the Sun Pirates infamous and inspired many fish-men to rise against oppression. Jinbei served under Fisher Tiger and, later, his successor, Arlong. However, while Jinbei was loyal to his crew, he grew wary of Arlong’s hatred toward humans and the violence it perpetuated. As Jinbei’s own philosophy developed, he began to seek a path toward peaceful coexistence, understanding that hatred would only deepen the divide between humans and fish-men.

When the Marineford War broke out, Jinbei refused to fight against Whitebeard’s forces, even at the cost of his Warlord status and imprisonment. During the war, he joined forces with Monkey D. Luffy, recognizing the young pirate’s potential and strength of character. This alliance was forged in the fires of battle, with Jinbei helping Luffy cope with the loss of his brother Ace and encouraging him to press forward.
After the war, Jinbei officially allied himself with Luffy, promising to join his crew in the future. He continued to work behind the scenes to support the Straw Hat Pirates, assisting them during critical moments, like the events at Fish-Man Island and the battle against Big Mom.
